On Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 12:59 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 500 block of Bercut Drive regarding a security guard who shot a subject.
When officers arrived on scene, they located a uniformed security officer with a serious, non-life threatening injury to his arm. Additionally, officers located an unresponsive male adult nearby. The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the subject deceased. The security guard was transported to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Crime Scene Investigators along with Homicide Detectives were summoned to the scene to begin canvassing the area for witnesses and potential evidence.
During the preliminary investigation, detectives determined the security guard was on routine patrol in the River District when he contacted a suspicious male adult subject. The subject became aggressive, armed himself with a large tree limb and attacked the guard causing him to fall to the ground. The guard drew his firearm and shot the subject who was attacking him.
The investigation remains very active and ongoing. The investigation will be forwarded to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office for further review.
