The Sacramento Police Department is honored to be participating in the Martin Luther King Jr. march and celebration on Monday, January 18, 2016. The celebration will begin with a community march and end at the Sacramento Convention Center, 1400 J Street. We have included the marching routes and meeting locations so the community can plan accordingly. If you are traveling through the area during morning hours, please choose an alternate route as traffic may be impacted.
There are two separate meeting locations for the South Sacramento area residents. The first one is located at the Oak Park Community Center, 3425 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The start time for this location is 8:30 a.m. where you will march to the second meeting location at Sacramento City College, 3835 Freeport Boulevard and converge with other participants. Here is the planned route:
· South on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
· West on 14th Avenue/Sutterville Road
· Sutterville Road to Freeport Boulevard
· West on 13th Avenue to north Land Park Drive
· West on Broadway to Northbound 10th Street
· East on L Street
· North on 13th Street to the Sacramento Convention Center
Another starting point is scheduled to leave the North Sacramento area from Grant High School, 1400 Grand Avenue at 8:45 a.m. The route for those who would like to start from this location is as follows:
· East on Grand Avenue to Marysville Boulevard
· South on Marysville Boulevard which turns into Del Paso Boulevard
· Continue South onto Highway 160
· Highway 160 turns into12th Street
· Eastbound on L Street
