On Thursday, February 25, 2016 at approximately 4:11 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to Norwood Avenue near the west bound I-80 overpass regarding the report of a shooting.
Officers arrived on scene and located an unresponsive male victim seated in a vehicle who appeared to have sustained life-threatening injuries from gunfire. The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the location and rushed the male victim to an area hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim, identified as 19-year-old Christian Torres, ultimately succumbed to his injuries on February 26, 2016.
During the preliminary investigation, officers determined the victim was driving south bound on Norwood Avenue travelling in the number one lane when an unknown suspect driving a vehicle fired multiple rounds into the victim’s vehicle. Following the gunfire, the victim drifted into on-coming traffic and collided with a truck travelling north bound on Norwood Avenue near the west bound I-80 overpass.
Homicide detectives along with Crime Scene Investigators were summoned to the scene to begin collecting evidence, and canvassing the area.
A specific motive has not been determined at this time. The investigation is on-going and no arrests have been made. Detectives are asking for the community’s help for any information pertaining to this incident.
