For the past 30 years, the Kops-n-Kids organization has partnered with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, local fire departments, educators and community volunteers to provide a week long summer day camp for boys and girls. This camp will give kids the opportunity to interact with positive role models, experience sports clinics and participate in gang resistance, violence prevention, gun avoidance and drug deterrence activities.
The camp will be held Monday, June 20, 2016 until Friday, June 24, 2016. During this time, the Sacramento Police Department will join 16 other law enforcement and public safety agencies as they take part in the 30th Annual, Kops-n-Kids Summer Camp. This week-long camp will be held at 9594 Kiefer Blvd (Rosemont High School) and starts at 9:00 a.m. daily. The camp will provide 375 youths aged 8 to 12 with positive mentorship in a fun and safe environment.
For the first time ever, the camp will incorporate CPR training into their events program. On Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., campers will learn how to provide lifesaving care through the use of hands-only CPR. This opportunity has been made possible, in part, by the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District who will be providing the campers with specialized CPR training equipment. In addition to providing confidence-building opportunities, promoting teamwork, and building leadership skills, campers will be empowered with the ability to save lives in their communities.
On Friday, June 24, 2016 at 9:00 a.m., public safety agencies from around the region will be showcasing some of their specialized vehicles, equipment and personnel during the camp’s Law Enforcement Day. Coaches, wearing their law enforcement uniforms, will interact with campers in a carnival-style atmosphere. Participants will be able to meet police canines and horses, take a photo on a police motorcycle, try on SWAT equipment, explore SWAT vehicles and Fire trucks, and participate in activities where they will work together as a team of investigators tasked with solving a crime.
