On Friday, June 24, 2016, at 5:57 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 4200 block of Stockton Boulevard regarding a hit and run incident involving a bicyclist.
When officers arrived on scene, they located an unresponsive 45-year-old, male bicyclist lying along the east curb-line of Stockton Boulevard, south of San Francisco Boulevard. The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the location and pronounced the man deceased.
The Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit responded to the scene to begin their investigation. Based on preliminary evidence, it appears the bicyclist was traveling northbound on Stockton Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle that was also travelling northbound on Stockton Boulevard. After the collision, the vehicle turned eastbound onto San Francisco Boulevard and continued driving.
The suspect vehicle, initially described as a white sedan, was later located unoccupied near the 3500 block of 59th Street. The vehicle was found to have a rear broken window which was consistent with a car window detectives located at the accident scene. It was found to have distinct red tape holding it together which was also found on the abandoned vehicle.
The Sacramento Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance in identifying the driver that fled the scene.
