On Monday, July 4, 2016, at 11:33 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received reports of a shooting in the area of 21st Street and Matson Drive.
Officers responded to the area and located an unresponsive male adult inside a vehicle near the intersection of Matson Drive and Balfour Way. The victim had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the victim was deceased.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to collect evidence and canvass the area for potential witnesses.
No arrests have been made at this time but the investigation remains very active. A specific motive has not yet been established. Detectives believe that this is an isolated incident and there does not appear to be any immediate threat to other persons in the neighborhood. Investigators are asking for the community’s help with any information pertaining to this homicide.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
