The Sacramento Police Department has initiated a new program called the “Online Exchange Zone”. It’s intended to enhance safety during the exchange of internet-based purchases from websites, smart phone applications or simply any other item advertised for sale from an individual.
Located in the parking lot of the Joseph E. Rooney Police Department, (5303 Franklin Boulevard), the Online Exchange Zone provides residents a place for prospective buyers and sellers to meet and complete their transaction which is a safer alternate to making these exchanges at a location not under surveillance. There are clearly marked designated parking spaces available to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There will not be a police officer present or available for these transactions, but the zone is well lit and under constant video surveillance. Having the ability to arrange to meet at the police department in an area designated for this purpose may deter those wanting to engage in theft or fraudulent activity.
While there are many credible online sales websites, their popularity can make users an easy target for criminal activity. Please keep these safety tips in mind when conducting online transactions:
