After 32 years of serving our great city, I have decided to officially announce my plans to retire effective December 9, 2016. At the end of last year I had discussions with my family and made a promise to retire before the end of the year. I am keeping my promise to them.
I entered this profession following in the footsteps of my father (who served this community over 31 years) to make a positive difference. Over the course of my career, I have been truly blessed to have had the opportunity to work with amazing people who are dedicated public servants. I have also had the good fortune to have met and worked with many great community leaders who have been great allies and community partners in helping us make our City safer.
It has truly been an honor and privilege to serve as Sacramento’s Police Chief as there are no better or more professional officers, civilians and command staff than those that serve our community.
It is my hope that in this period of transition in our community that my official announcement will aid in the City of Sacramento’s planning for the future of its police leadership. Again, it has been an honor.
