The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 45-year-old Isaac Knutila for various narcotic related charges while possessing a firearm off-duty. He has been a police officer with the department for the last 16 years.
On October 13, 2016 the Sacramento Police Department received information that Knutila was possibly involved in prostitution-related activity at a hotel within the city limits. Immediately, the department launched an investigation into these allegations.
Since then, the department has dedicated a vast amount of internal and external resources to investigate these assertions. With the assistance of multiple outside agencies, officers conducted surveillance and undercover operations focusing on Knutila.
On November 4, 2016 Sacramento Police Detectives served a search warrant for Knutila’s person and property. At that time, detectives located a usable amount of narcotics in his possession. During this time he was also found to be in possession of his department issued firearm. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for the following charges: Possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of amphetamines, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of over an ounce of marijuana.
Knutila has been placed on administrative leave pending termination of employment. This remains an on-going criminal and administrative investigation conducted by the Sacramento Police Department and Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. At this point, there is no indication that the criminal activity Knutila has been involved in occurred on-duty.
“It is unacceptable that a member of law enforcement would violate the public’s trust. We hold our officers to the highest standard and I assure you that these actions don’t reflect upon the hardworking men and women of the Sacramento Police Department,” said Deputy Chief Brian Louie.
