The Sacramento Police Department is excited to announce the launch of our new zero emission motorcycle fleet.
The new fleet, which consists of four motorcycles manufactured by the Zero Motorcycle Company, will be added to the department’s existing pool of traditionally-powered motorcycles. Each motorcycle costs approximately $18,000 when fully outfitted and were funded by the department’s asset forfeiture program.
With the opening of the Golden 1 Center and the changing landscape of the downtown area, the department recognized the need to have a smaller, quieter, and more maneuverable motorcycle available to our officers. These bikes will also be used in other various events such as, parades, concerts, and marches throughout the city.
Over the past several weeks, members of our traffic unit received training on the use of the Zero Motorcycles and began using them in October.
Other benefits of the Zero Motorcycles include:
· No emissions.
· Safer at crowded public events – no hot parts means no risk of burns.
· More compact package means the bikes are more maneuverable in tight and crowded spaces.
· Silent – No engine noise
· Lower cost of operation than a standard police motorcycle.
We are happy to be an early adopter of this innovative technology that will allow us to more efficiently pursue our efforts at making Sacramento the Safest Big City in California.
