On Thursday, December 8, 2016, at 5:29 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the intersection of Northgate Boulevard and Bridgeford Drive regarding a hit and run incident involving a bicyclist.
When officers arrived on scene, they located an unresponsive 47-year-old, male bicyclist lying in the roadway. The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the location and pronounced the man deceased.
The Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit responded to the scene to begin their investigation. Based on preliminary evidence, it appears the bicyclist was traveling across Northgate Boulevard in a west bound direction near the intersection of Bridgeford Drive. He made it across several lanes before he was struck by a vehicle. Due to the heavy traffic congestion, it is believed the bicyclist was struck by additional vehicles before traffic came to a complete stop.
Detectives contacted several witnesses including two drivers at the scene. Impairment or speed did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
The Sacramento Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance in identifying any drivers that fled the scene.
