The holidays are meant to be spent with family and friends, not in a cold jail cell with strangers. The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) is partnering with the Sacramento Police Department in a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint as part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” high visibility enforcement period running from December 16 to January 1. Checkpoints are meant to be reminders that if alcohol is going to be a part of your holiday cheer, designate a sober driver.
WHY: 1,155 people were killed on California roadways in 2014, just from alcohol involved
collisions alone. Over 23,000 were seriously injured.
WHO: Director of the Office of Traffic Safety: Rhonda Craft
Interim Chief of Police of the Sacramento Police Department: Brian Louie
WHEN: Friday, December 16
The checkpoint will be starting at 6:00 p.m. and run for 5-7 hours
Director Craft and Chief Louie will be available for interviews from 5:30 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.
Please direct any inquiries to Sergeant Chris Prince via email at cprince@pd.cityofsacramento.org or by telephone at (916) 808-6069. Media is encouraged to attend the checkpoint in an effort to spread awareness about the impacts of drinking and driving.
