On Friday, December 23, 2016, at 2:52 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Isabel Street regarding the report of a female that had been shot.
Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive female adult in the driver’s seat of a vehicle and immediately began life saving efforts until fire personnel arrived on scene. The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the location and transported the victim to a local area hospital. It is believed that a male adult passenger and a female adult passenger fled from the vehicle once it came to a stop. It is unknown if either of these subjects were struck by gunfire. These two individuals remain outstanding but are not believed to be suspects in the shooting. Detectives are currently looking to speak to these individuals.
Evidence suggests that the female victim was driving westbound on Isabel Street when her vehicle was fired upon. She was struck by the gunfire, rendering her unconscious. The vehicle veered off the roadway where a metal pole was struck on the south side of the roadway. After the initial collision, the vehicle proceeded across Isabel Street to the north side where it came to a stop on the sidewalk.
Based on the severity of the victim’s injuries, Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were summoned to the scene to take over the investigation. This investigation remains active and no arrests have been made. Detectives have not yet established a specific motive for the shooting, but they believe this to be an isolated incident.
On December 26, 2016, the female victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The identity of the deceased victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
