On Sunday, January 1, 2017, at 11:36 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 5500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard regarding the report of a shooting that occurred.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim inside a business. The man had sustained a serious injury and was transported to the hospital by medical personnel. Despite lifesaving efforts by responding officers and medical personnel, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were summoned to the scene to begin their investigation.
Preliminarily, investigators have identified a possible crime scene near the 5200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
This investigation remains active and no arrests have been made. Detectives have not yet established a specific motive for the shooting, but believe this is an isolated incident.
The identity of the deceased victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
