In 2016, the City of Sacramento experienced a decrease in crime statistics in almost every category compared to the prior calendar year. Homicides were reduced by 4.7% and burglaries were reduced by 17.5%. Overall, UCR (Uniform Crime Reporting) crimes netted a 6.1% reduction in the City.
The Uniform Crime Reports compiles official data on crime in the United States and is published by the FBI. Law enforcement agencies across the Unites States provide the data to the FBI which then compiles the Reports. Since the beginning of the UCR program in 1930, it has become an important source of crime information for law enforcement, policymakers, scholars and the media. More information regarding the Uniform Crime Reporting can be found at https://ucr.fbi.gov/ucr.
“With this decrease in crime, we must stay vigilant and work together as a community to continue to impact these numbers. Through the hard work and commitment by our officers, community partners and elected officials we have been able to improve the safety of our neighborhoods.” – Interim Chief Brian Louie
