On Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at approximately 7:18 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the Lemon Hill Avenue and Wilkinson Street regarding a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they located a male pedestrian laying in the roadway. The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the scene and after lifesaving efforts pronounced him deceased.
During the investigation, detectives believe that the pedestrian was crossing Lemon Hill Avenue in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle. This vehicle failed to stop after the collision and fled eastbound on Lemon Hill Avenue. The vehicle was described as a light-colored, four-door sport utility vehicle. Investigators believe that the vehicle may be a silver Toyota Highlander.
Due to the fatality, the Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to the scene to take over the investigation. Several witnesses remained at the scene and have been speaking with officers.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
