The Sacramento Police Department has partnered with the California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC) and its “Don’t Rush to Flush” program. With the prescription drug abuse epidemic nationwide, the need for additional safe medication take back bins is greater than ever.
The Department has added a new medication collection bin in the lobby of the Public Safety Center located at 5770 Freeport Boulevard, Sacramento 95822. This new bin will provide citizens a safe way to dispose of expired or unwanted medications to help prevent abuse, accidental poisonings and keep them out of our prized waterways. A second collection site within the Police Department will be established in the near future.
As a reminder, the Department will be holding a collection event for unwanted medications on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. One day collection events have been tremendously successful but necessitate the extended storage of unwanted medications in the time between events. Having permanent medication collection bins at Sacramento Police facilities eliminate the need for storage by providing the same free, secure and confidential service year-round, helping keep medication out of harm’s way and off the streets.
