Millions of Americans are impacted daily by mental health conditions. To show support, the Sacramento Police Department has partnered with the Sacramento National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) to bring awareness to the millions of people who suffer from mental illness. For the Month of May, officers and dispatchers will be wearing department approved pins on their uniforms to support and promote National Mental Health Awareness Month.
These limited-edition pins are a symbol of hope and solidarity that bring attention to those who have a mental health issue, and for families with loved ones who have someone they love with a mental issue. Although a small gesture, this is just one way to show our support and bring awareness to these difficult conditions.
The Sacramento Police Department is also participating in the 5K NAMI Walk on May 6, 2017 at Land Park. You can register for the walk by visiting www.namiwalks.org.
These limited-edition pins are also being offered to the public and are available at the Public Safety Center located at 5770 Freeport Boulevard, Sacramento. A $5.00 donation is recommended, but if you wish to donate more it is always appreciated. All funds received will be donated to the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI).
For more information on NAMI, and the pin campaign, you can contact the Northern California NAMI Executive Director, David Bain at (916) 601-1077.
