On Friday, May 26, 2017, at approximately 3:21 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the area of Elder Creek Road near Florin-Perkins Road for a possible hit and run collision involving a bicyclist.
When officers arrived, they located an unresponsive male bicyclist laying on the edge of the roadway. The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the scene and after lifesaving efforts pronounced him deceased.
Through investigation, detectives believe the bicyclist, whom was wearing dark clothing and riding a black beach cruiser style bicycle with a head light, may have been traveling westbound Elder Creek Road. It is believed the bicyclist was on the north edge of the roadway, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling the same direction. The vehicle failed to stop after the collision and fled the scene. Investigators do not have any information on the vehicle at this time and are seeking the community’s help. Detectives believe the collision occurred between the hours of 11:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.
Due to the fatality, the Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to the scene to take over the investigation.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
