SPD Detectives Arrest Four Suspects in 24th Street Homicide

On Sunday, June 4, 2017, at approximately midnight, officers from the Sacramento Police Department were in the area of 24th Street and 38th Avenue and heard sounds of gunshots.  Officers began to investigate and located a vehicle rolled onto its side and fully engulfed in flames on the west side of 24th Street near 40th Avenue.  Officers broke through a window, cut the driver’s seat belt and pulled the victim from the burning vehicle.  Officers immediately began CPR.  The victim, later identified as 30-year-old Mickey Betti, had sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Alert patrol officers responding to the scene stopped a second vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed.  After extensive follow-up, Homicide and Gang Detectives linked the four occupants of that vehicle, 30-year-old Johanna Vieyra, 27-year-old Michael Montoya, 26-year-old Julian Ortiz and 22-year-old Xavier Montoya, to the homicide.  Those four suspects have been arrested for weapons and homicide related charges.

The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this shooting to contact the dispatch center at (916)264-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app.  Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
