J Street Shooting Investigation

This press release is a summary of the facts known at this time.  The incident is still under investigation and the preliminary information is subject to change.  Additional details will be released as they become available.

On Saturday, June 24, 2017 at approximately 10:48 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 1000 block of J Street.  As officers arrived, they were directed by witnesses to an alley south of J Street between 9th and 10th Street.

Once in the alley, they located a male subject laying on the ground with a life-threatening gunshot wound.  Officers immediately performed lifesaving measures and requested medical aid.  The victim was transported by the Sacramento Fire Department to a local area hospital where he is expected to survive, but remains in serious condition.

Based on the seriousness of the victim’s injuries, Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to canvass the area for potential evidence and witnesses.

It is believed a verbal argument occurred between the suspect and the victim inside a nearby liquor store.  The argument escalated and both subjects went outside the business.  Once outside, the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim.  The suspect was last seen running eastbound on J street and is currently outstanding.

The suspect is described as follows: (pictured below)

·       Male Caucasian, 45-50 years old, 5’10” tall, 250-300 pounds, with a 1”- 2” beard.  He was last seen wearing a florescent camouflage fishing hat, red and white plaid button-up short sleeve shirt, blue undershirt, black cargo pants and a black backpack.

The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this shooting to contact the dispatch center at (916)264-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app.  Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
