The Sacramento Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the area of 33rd Street and 10th Avenue on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 9:42 p.m.
The victim, who was eight-months pregnant, was attending a memorial gathering at the location when a male suspect approached and fired into the group of people. The victim sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound to her abdomen and was transported to a local area hospital where she underwent an emergency cesarean section to save her unborn child. Both the mother and the child are expected to survive.
Major Crimes detectives have been working this incident and have developed evidence suggesting that the suspect walked up to the memorial from 10th Avenue and fired multiple times into the crowd of people attending the event.
The image below was captured by a nearby surveillance camera of the suspect. The suspect is described as follows:
· Male Black, 18-22 years old, 5’9”- 6’0” tall, thin build, light skin wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, light blue jeans and orange or red underwear. He is believed to be associated with a dark colored Chevrolet Impala.
Investigators have not yet been able to identify the suspect involved in this incident or the motive for the shooting. Detectives hope someone from the community may have additional information about the case or recognize the suspect depicted in the photographs.
