The Sacramento Police Department is investigating an overnight, double fatality motorcycle collision.
On Sunday, August 6, 2017, at 2:01 a.m., officers responded to Auburn Boulevard and State Route 244 for a motorcycle accident. When officers arrived, hospital staff from a nearby hospital were performing lifesaving measures on one of the two unresponsive adults who were down in the roadway. When officers arrived, they relieved the staff and took over CPR until Sacramento Metro Fire personnel arrived. Ultimately, the driver and passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives from the Department’s Major Collision Investigative Unit (MCIU) responded to the scene to take over the investigation.
Preliminary information suggests that the male driver, who had a rear female passenger, was traveling eastbound on State Route 244 when he approached the intersection of Auburn Boulevard at an unsafe speed. The motorcyclist failed to recognize the dead end of State Route 244, which is the parking lot of a local hospital.
Once recognizing that the roadway ended, the driver attempted to stop, locking up his brakes. The motorcycle slid across the intersection and into a tree located in the nearby parking lot. Both subjects were thrown from the motorcycle upon impact and received fatal injuries from the collision. It is unknown if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin notifications have been completed.
