Suspicious Death Determined to be a Homicide

On Monday, August 14, 2017 at approximately 6:06 p.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department were requested by the Fire Department to respond to the levee area of Garden Highway and Natomas Park Drive for a suspicious dead body.  Fire personnel originally responded to the call and located the deceased in a remote location on the levee.  When patrol officers arrived, they observed a deceased male adult with advanced stages of decomposition.

Due to the nature of the discovery, Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to canvass the area for potential evidence or witnesses.   Due to the condition of the deceased, detectives were unable to determine a cause of death or identity of the person.

Today, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy of the deceased and has ruled it a homicide. The identity of the victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin notifications have been completed.   Detectives are asking for the community’s help in providing any information they may have in this case.

The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this homicide to contact the dispatch center at (916)264-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app.  Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
