On Friday, September 1, 2017, at approximately 6:25 a.m. officers from the Sacramento Police Department responded to a residence on the 3000 block of Melinda Way for a report of a violent assault.  

Officers arrived and discovered that a 7-year-old girl, 8-year-old boy and an adult female had been beat with a hammer by a male suspect.  The victims sustained major injuries during the assault and were transported to a local area hospital by medical personnel.  All three victims are listed in serious to critical condition. 

Due to the serious nature of the victims’ injuries, detectives from the Major Crimes Division and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to canvass the area for potential evidence and witnesses.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified 23-year-old Deandre Chaney Jr. as the suspect in this violent attack.  It is believed that the assault stemmed from a verbal argument that occurred between the adult female and Chaney who were in a prior relationship.   After the assault, Chaney stole the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene.  The vehicle has since been recovered by law enforcement.    

Chaney is known to law enforcement and has a violent history.  He is considered armed and dangerous so DO NOT attempt to contact him but rather notify local authorities of his location. 

Chaney is described as follows:

·         Male, African American, 5’7” tall, 165 pounds, long black dreadlock style hair, medium completion, tattoos above his left eyebrow and neck.  He was last seen wearing a white-colored shirt and blue-colored pants.
