On Monday, September 11, 2017 at 9:29 p.m., a Sacramento Police Department K-9 officer, saw a subject recklessly driving a large pick-up truck northbound Marysville Blvd. The truck turned onto eastbound South Ave. at a high rate of speed and rammed through the closed Northeast gate of the William J. Kinney Police Facility on Marysville Blvd.
The suspect drove the truck south through the parking lot where he struck a parked and unoccupied patrol vehicle, causing significant damage to the police vehicle. At this time there were multiple officers on foot in the parking lot who were alerted to the truck having just rammed the gate.
The K-9 Officer, with the assistance of other officers in the parking lot, pursued the suspect in their patrol vehicles and on foot. The suspect proceeded through the rear parking lot of the station and drove the truck through the emergency exit gate which exits onto Rosalind Street. The suspect continued driving his vehicle southbound across Rosalind Street with the gate from the Police Department still on the front of the truck. The suspect collided with the front gate of the residence on the south side of Rosalind Street. The occupants of the house were un-injured.
The suspect then exited the truck and began to flee, at which time the K-9 Officer deployed his K-9 partner “Reno”. The suspect fought the dog off multiple times. During the struggle, an Officer fired their service weapon multiple times striking the suspect in his lower extremities.
The suspect again fled from the officers and jumped over fences. During the struggle with the suspect, K-9 “Reno” sustained at least two lacerations. K-9 “Reno” was transported to a veterinarian hospital for treatment.
The suspect knocked on the front door and asked the homeowner for help. When the resident refused, the suspect assaulted him with a metal pipe, striking him multiple times. The suspect overpowered the homeowner, entered his home and closed the door behind him, leaving the homeowner outside.
A short time later the suspect re-emerged from the front door with the keys to the homeowner’s vehicle. The homeowner and the suspect engaged in another physical confrontation as the suspect is attempting to take his vehicle from the driveway.
Officers responding to the initial call observed the fight in the yard of the residence. The Officers exited their vehicle and attempted to detain the suspect. The Officers utilized their CED (Conducted-Energy Device) to gain compliance of the suspect and take him into custody.
The suspect was transported to a local area hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition. The name of the suspect is not being released at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. The area surrounding the Police Station will be closed off for an extended period of time while investigators conduct a thorough investigation.
