Homicide Investigation – 64th Street

This press release is a summary of the facts known at this time.  The incident is still under investigation and this preliminary information is subject to change.  Additional details will be released as they become available.

On Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at approximately 7:53 p.m., officers responded to reports of two males that had been shot near the 5800 block of 64th Street.  As officers arrived, they located two 15-year old males who had been struck by gunfire.  One of the juveniles was found unconscious while the second juvenile was alert and talking. Officers immediately rendered medical aid until fire personnel arrived and took over life-saving efforts.

Both juveniles were transported by the Sacramento Fire Department to a local area hospital for treatment of their injuries.  Ultimately, one of the males succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.  The second juvenile remains in serious but stable condition.

Preliminary information suggests that the juveniles were in the area to commit a home invasion robbery.  While the investigation is still very active, detectives believe this is an isolated incident.  The involved parties have been identified and it has been determined that the shooting was not gang-related.

Detectives are asking for the community’s help in providing any information they may have regarding the incident.

The identity of the deceased male will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once the next of kin has been notified.

The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this homicide to contact the dispatch center at (916)264-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app.  Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
