On Monday, October 23, 2017 at approximately 5:25 a.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department were called to the area of Dixieanne Avenue and Empress Street regarding a subject who had been stabbed.
Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male lying in the street who had sustained a life-threatening stab wound. Officers immediately began rendering first aid, initiated C.P.R. and summoned medical personnel to the scene.
Medical personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. As the officers were conducting the initial investigation they detained a subject of interest in the homicide.
The preliminary investigation suggests this incident began as an argument and escalated into a physical altercation which resulted in one of the subjects being stabbed. It is believed the argument was between two males known to each other.This incident appears to be an isolated incident.
Homicide Detectives as well as Crime Scene Investigators were called to the scene to canvas the area for any potential witnesses or evidence. The police department is not currently looking for any additional suspects.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin notifications have been completed.
