Adopt A Classroom Graduation
The Sacramento Police Department would like to congratulate the 4th, 5th and 6thgrade students, who graduated today from the Adopt a Classroom Program.
The Adopt a Classroom program is a Sacramento Police Department Cops and Clergy initiative. The program is a 5-month curriculum based program that teaches our youth life skills; with law enforcement and faith based leaders as teachers. The goal of the program is to teach our most valuable resource the skills necessary to help them make informed decisions, communicate effectively and develop coping and self-management skills that will help them to lead a healthy and productive life. The curriculum includes the following life skills:
• 9-1-1 for Kids / What to do in an emergency
• Bullying / Fighting Prevention
• Goal setting / Gang, gun, & drug prevention
• Social Media Responsibility
• Positive Behavior & Respect
This is the second graduating class of the program. The Sacramento Police Department adopted 3 classrooms, to include two from Ethel I Baker Elementary and one from Success Academy for a total of approximately 85 students. The program culminated today with a mini graduation, including a certificate and a pizza party for the kids.
Today’s graduating cohort is an expansion from the two original founding classrooms of approximately 60 students from Ethel I Baker Elementary. Our goal is to expand to over 100 students enrolled in the program at a time. If you would like your school to participate contact our Outreach and Engagement unit at 916-808-0869.
