Over the past several weeks the Sacramento Police Department has received reports of potential violence at schools within our City. These reports were related to social media posts and comments about potential threats at McClatchy High School. Our School Resource Officers and patrol officers have been working with Sacramento City Unified School District and our Criminal Intelligence Unit to investigate these possible threats. These incidents were thoroughly investigated by our officers as well as school officials.
All the involved parties were identified and contacted. The Police Department would like to inform McClatchy High School students, parents, staff and the surrounding community that at this time there is no reason to believe that the alleged threat is credible. We are aware of multiple social media posts and discussion threads and will continue to investigate any new reports of threat related allegations.
The Sacramento Police Department works closely with the School Districts within the City of Sacramento and is committed to the safety of our children and their ability to go to school and feel safe. In light of recent events across the country, an increased police presence will be around our schools for the next several days. The department as well as Sacramento City Unified School District and the Natomas Unified School District are committed to the safety of our schools.
Students, parents, community members and citizens who suspect or come across information regarding potential school violence are encouraged to report that information to the Sacramento Police Department. It is imperative that all information regarding potential school violence be investigated by law enforcement. All threats to our schools and community are taken seriously and treated with the utmost importance. Reports can be made to our Communication Center at (916) 264-5471, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Working together as a community, we can provide the safest environment possible in Sacramento schools and provide a welcoming place for students to learn and thrive.
