Police Investigate Threats at Kennedy High School

At approximately 9:51 a.m., on Friday, March 16, 2018, the Sacramento Police Department received information of a threat at Kennedy High School, 6715 Gloria Drive.  This information came in the form of a text message that was sent to several students whom were attending classes.  The text indicated that bombs were possibly placed in classrooms throughout the school.   The text message was subsequently shared by numerous students at the school and brought to the attention of school administration and Sacramento Police School Resource Officers who were on the campus.

Sacramento Police School Resource Officers and Kennedy High School Administrative Staff made the quick decision to evacuate the entire school as a precaution. Police responded to assist in the evacuation and to secure the campus. Students were safely relocated to the Elks Lodge, 6446 Riverside Boulevard, where parents were advised they could pick up their children.  The school was dismissed for the day.

The Sacramento Police Department Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) and police K9 teams specially trained to search for explosive devices responded to the school to conduct a full search of the campus.  After an extensive search, by teams from multiple agencies, no explosive devices were located, and it was determined that the school was safe for students and staff to return.

Sacramento Police detectives responded to the scene and are working to identify and contact the source of the threatening message; however, no arrests have been made at this point.

The Sacramento Police Department works closely with schools within the City of Sacramento and is committed to the safety of our children.
