The Sacramento Police Department, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice Community Relations Service (CRS), is ready to launch Neighborhood Engagement Strategy Talks (NEST). Over the coming weeks, six community engagement and problem-solving dialogues designed to improve public safety are scheduled to be held in each of the six police districts of Sacramento. The Community Relations Service is the Department’s “Peacemaker” for community conflicts and tensions. The agency works with government, private and public organizations, civil rights groups, and local community leaders, to uncover the underlying interests of all those involved in conflict and facilitates the development of viable, mutual understandings and solutions to the community challenges. The U.S. Department of Justice, in partnership with the City of Sacramento and the Sacramento Police Department, would like to announce an open application process for city residents to participate in the NEST process. Community members interested in participating in one of the initial six meetings are asked to complete a short, online application available at: https://www.cityofsacramento.org/Police/Transparency/Neighborhood-Engagement-Strategy-Talks Additional information about the NEST process is also available through this site and on the CRS website (https://www.justice.gov/crs). Applicants must be residents of the City of Sacramento and will be invited to the NEST session in the police district of their residence. If more applications are received than space allows, participants will be selected through a lottery process. The proposed NEST Session dates are below: District 1 (Natomas): July 11, 2018 District 2 (North Sacramento): July 12, 2018 District 3 (Downtown and Midtown): June 14, 2018 District 4 (Land Park and Pocket): June 27, 2018 District 5 (South Sacramento): June 28, 2018 District 6 (East Sacramento and Oak Park): June 20, 2018 The NEST sessions will begin on June 14, 2018. There will be additional opportunities in the future for more members of the community to become involved through a series of working groups which will be tasked at examining specific topics identified during the focus group process.
