The Sacramento Police Department, in the ongoing effort of transparency is pleased to be one of 54 Law Enforcement Agencies in the nation to be participants in the Police Foundation’s Hate Crime Open Data Initiative. The Sacramento Police Department does not tolerate hate and bias motivated crimes and is committed to informing the community regarding these types of offenses in our City.
By participating in the Police Foundation’s Hate Crime Open Data Initiative, we are committing to making data available in an open and transparent way so that our communities and everyone in our agency continues to know that the issue of hate crime is taken seriously and that we are holding ourselves accountable for addressing it.
We encourage anyone in our community who has been the victim of a possible hate crime – regardless of the nature or type of incident - to come forward, report the crime or incident, and to work with us to bring the perpetrators to justice.
We are excited to join the other law enforcement agencies around the U.S. that have accepted the Police Foundation’s Challenge and look forward to sharing lessons learned and best practices with them through this process.
Our participation in the Police Foundation’s Police Data Initiative has been ongoing and has helped us to demonstrate transparency and to build trust and confidence within the community. The Police Data Initiative was launched in 2015 and continues today, with 141 U.S. law enforcement agencies participating.
