Fireworks Mitigation Task Force – Results

The Sacramento City Council was instrumental in creating our Fireworks Mitigation Task Force. Specifically, Councilmember Eric Guerra and Councilmember Rick Jennings developed this team for our city. The task force consisted of six Sacramento Police Department Police Officers, two Sacramento City Firefighters, three deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and two agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The team worked towards the goal of providing public safety by removing illegal fireworks from the community.

The team was in place from May 26th through July 5th. Their responsibility was to mitigate the sale/possession of illegal fireworks for a 5-week period leading up to the 4th of July. They also investigated high-priority fireworks events on the nights of July 2nd – 4th.

These are the results of their enforcement efforts:

·       2,333 pounds of illegal fireworks seized.

·       3 Felony Arrests.

·       13 Misdemeanor Arrests (Cite and Release).

·       80 Citizens Advised.

·       2 Amnesty Days.

·       2 Search Warrants Served.

·       3 Undercover operations.

·       44 email complaint follow-ups.

·       7 Firearms seized.

·       1.5 ounces of methamphetamines seized.

·       39 containers of butane hash oil seized.
