Today, the Sacramento Police Department is releasing audio and video related to a July 22, 2018 collision involving a department patrol vehicle and a juvenile suspect fleeing from officers.

The release of this material is done at the discretion of the Chief of Police to inform our community and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to transparency. All videos and audio being released have been redacted to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of those involved. The faces have been blurred and audio redactions are signified by muted audio with no accompanying sound.
The Sacramento Police Department recognizes the significance of this incident and the impact it has had on our community. The circumstances that led to the collision are not consistent with our training or expectations and this was an unacceptable outcome.
“Clearly, this collision could have been tragic. I am grateful the young man was not more seriously injured and that no one else was injured. Our training is designed to prevent this sort of thing from happening. We are going to make sure our training- and the officer's adherence to that training- is as solid as it can be.” -Chief Daniel Hahn

We have asked the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) of the California Highway Patrol to review our investigation to ensure that it is thorough and comprehensive.
