On Friday, August 17, 2018, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 200 block of Cookingham Way regarding a ShotSpotter activation. While responding, officers received information that a subject had been shot.
Officers arrived on-scene and located an unresponsive adult Asian male in the roadway. The victim sustained a gunshot wound injury. Officers began rendering medical aid prior to Medics arriving. The victim was transported to the hospital by fire personnel. Ultimately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to take over the investigation. A motive for the shooting has not been determined, however this appears to be an isolated incident.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin has been notified.
