On Wednesday, at approximately 1:11 a.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department were called to the 2300 block of Empress Street regarding a shot spotter activation. Additionally, our dispatch center received multiple calls regarding a shooting in the area.
Officers arrived and located a male adult with at least one gunshot wound. The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the scene and provided medical aid.
The victim was transported by fire personnel to a local area hospital. Ultimately, the male adult succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Officers conducted an initial canvas of the area for witnesses and evidence. Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene investigators have been called to the scene to take over the investigation. At this time, a motive for the shooting has not been determined. However, investigators believe that this is an isolated incident and possibly related to an earlier disturbance in the area.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin has been notified.
