On Friday, August 31, 2018, at approximately 1:37 a.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department were dispatched to a motel on Massie Court regarding multiple gunshots heard in a motel room.
Officers arrived in the area and observed bullet holes in the motel room door where the gunshots came from. Immediately, the officers took safety precautions by conducting necessary evacuations of nearby motel rooms and requested additional officers to set up a perimeter. While conducting evacuations, the officers heard a gunshot from the same motel room.
Additional officers responded to assist with establishing a perimeter. At one point, while inside of the motel room, the suspect discharged his weapon indiscriminately through a wall and window into an adjoining room and other neighboring motel rooms. Meanwhile, multiple officers were on perimeter positions and in close proximity to the suspect’s location. None of the officers were injured.
Due to the severity of this event, the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) responded to the scene. Throughout the incident, the suspect continued to discharge his firearm periodically while refusing to exit the motel room.
At approximately 9:57 a.m., after multiple hours of negotiations, the suspect exited the room and was detained without incident. During a preliminary search of the suspect’s room, officers located an assault weapon, firearm magazine and an ammunition box with ammo (Photo Attached).
The suspect has been identified as 38-year-old Kennedy Nguyen. He was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm, assault with a deadly firearm and possession of an unregistered assault weapon. Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to take over the investigation of this incident. The investigation remains active.
