On Friday, September 7, 2018, at 10:08 p.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department were called to the area of Northgate Boulevard and Del Paso Boulevard regarding a shooting.  The caller advised a male had been shot on the bridge between downtown and Northgate Boulevard.     

Officers arrived on scene and located an unresponsive male adult victim with gunshot wound injuries on the bike trail bridge above the American River.  Officers began initial CPR until medics arrived and took over patient care.  Despite life-saving measures, the victim was declared deceased on scene by the Sacramento Fire Department.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to take over the investigation. At this time, a motive for the shooting has not been determined.

Detectives are asking for the community’s help in providing any information they may have regarding this incident.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin has been notified.
