On Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at 11:32 p.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department (SPD) were dispatched to the area of Broadway/16th Street regarding a suspicious subject walking with a mask and a gun. This incident led to an officer-involved shooting.

The Sacramento Police Department (SPD) recognizes the significance of this incident and we are committed to providing timely information and communicating openly with our community.
Follow-up investigation shows that when the suspect was walking in the area of 16th Street / Broadway near the time of the initial call, he approached two victims and pointed the firearm directly at them. The suspect was within four feet of the victims when he pointed the gun at them. The suspect walked eastbound on Broadway and continued to point the weapon at the victims who feared for their lives and believed they were going to be shot by the suspect. Shortly after this encounter, the suspect was observed by the CHP airplane.
Today SPD is releasing video and audio material related to this incident. The material consists of ten (10) body-worn camera (BWC) videos (BWC), two (2) in-car camera (ICC) videos, two (2) surveillance videos, three (3) California Highway Patrol (CHP) airplane video files, two (2) dispatch audio files and the 911 call.

This incident falls under the City Council policy on Police Use of Force. The material being released today has been identified as significant to this incident.
