On Friday, September 14, 2018, at 4:15 p.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department responded to Freeport Boulevard and McAllister Avenue regarding a vehicle collision. Officers arrived on-scene and determined that there were two vehicles involved in the collision. One involved party was pronounced deceased by the Sacramento Fire Department.
Due to the severity of the incident, the Major Collision Investigative Unit responded to take over the investigation. After extensive follow-up, detectives arrested an involved driver for vehicular manslaughter. Avenesh Mal, a 32-year-old Sacramento resident (Photo attached) was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail. At this time, the investigation remains active.
