Salute To Law Enforcement Night was celebrated this evening at the Golden 1 Center. During the game, the Sacramento Kings recognized Officer Lilia Vasquez for her efforts in the community and presented her with the Community Impact Award. Officer Vasquez is 13-year veteran of the Sacramento Police Department. She is currently one of our four Criminal Justice Magnet Officers at John F. Kennedy High School in South Sacramento. Before this assignment she worked as a Community Service Officer, School Resource Officer at Natomas High School, and an Outreach and Engagement Officer. She has dedicated countless hours to the children and young people of the Sacramento region as well as received multiple awards for her hard work and achievements. Below is a summary of her accomplishments.
Achievements
· Parent Project, help teach gang prevention to kids and drug awareness to parents while fostering a positive relationship with police in Spanish
· Providing the funding & organized Every 15 Minutes at Natomas High
· Currently the President of Kops N Kids (4 years)
· SacPal Fishing Club Board Member
· Assists with SacPal Ski Trips
· Assists with SPD Cares
· Speaker - Latina Leadership Conference @ Sac State
· Speaker - Cesar Chavez Youth Leadership Conference at UC Davis
· Assists with Links to Law Enforcement
· On Panel for first ever Female Links to Law Enforcement
· Sacramento Police Department Shop with a Cop liaison with Salvation Army
· Wrote & received a grant for SPD for $15,000 for bicycles and community safety programs
· Co-wrote and received a $5,000 grant for SPD for Shop with a Cop for Christmas.
· Created a peer mentor program at Natomas High to help students dealing with stress.
· Helped launch “Behind the Badge” a youth mentoring and recruitment program in collaboration with Councilmember Harris’ office.
· Panel speaker at the Consul General of Mexico in Sacramento at the 6th Women’s Leadership Conference.
· Helped launch the curriculum for Adopt a Classroom, a SPD Cops and Clergy middle school teaching cohort taught in five sessions. Have taught over 200 kids thus far.
· Provided over 500 students at NUSD with training on Sexual Harassment & Social Media responsibility.
· Co-Creator of SOLID “Saving our lives and investing in Dreams” anti-violence campaign soon to launch Spring 2019.
· Assists with Sac City Council summer youth leadership program.
· Part of LEA juvenile diversion discussion group for alternatives to juvenile arrests.
