After this incident, EGPD did follow-up and identified the suspect responsible for these crimes as a 42-year-old male white, who was also wanted on a parole violation. The Major Crimes Bureau and the Special Enforcement Detail of the Sacramento County Sherriff’s Department conducted extensive follow-up which led them to the grocery store parking lot in the 3200 block of Truxel Road. The suspect was observed exiting the vehicle with a handgun.
Two deputies approached the suspect to safely take him into custody. The deputies gave the suspect commands who did not comply which resulted in both deputies firing at the suspect. The deputies approached, and a loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered from the suspect. The suspect also had a weapon holster on his waistband. See photograph attached of suspect’s handgun.
Deputies provided medical aid, including CPR until the Sacramento Fire Department arrived and took over medical care. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene by fire personnel.
The identity of the suspect will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once the next of kin has been notified.
