The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office has announced their investigation and review of the officer-involved shooting that occurred on March 18th, 2018, in the 7500 block of 29th Street is complete.

Today, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office concluded that “The evidence in this case demonstrates that both officers had an honest and reasonable belief that they were in imminent danger of death or great bodily injury. Therefore, the shooting of Mr. Clark was lawful, and no criminal charges will be filed.”

The Sacramento Police Department has conducted a preliminary review of this incident and has made key policy changes intended to improve how our agency handles similar circumstances in the future. Since March of 2018, our department has strengthened our policy related to the use of body-worn cameras and implemented a policy designed to make all parties safer in the event of a foot pursuit. The State of California Department of Justice has not yet disclosed the findings of its independent investigation into this matter. Once their findings have been reported, we will conduct a final policy review covering whether the specific use of force during the incident complied with department policy. As soon as this review is complete, we will share information in compliance with Senate Bill 1421.
