On Saturday, April 20, 2019, at approximately 8:54 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the area of Franklin Boulevard and Idaho Drive regarding a major vehicle collision.
When officers arrived, they learned that two vehicles were involved in the collision. Fire personnel responded to provide medical aid. One involved vehicle was a Cadillac CTS with three occupants. While on scene, fire personnel pronounced the male adult driver deceased. The other two occupants were transported to a local area hospital for minor injuries.
The other involved vehicle was a Toyota FJ Cruiser. There was a male adult driving this vehicle and no other occupants. During the preliminary stage of this investigation, officers determined this driver was impaired. As a precaution, the driver was transported to a local area hospital. After being medically cleared at the hospital, 35-year-old Allen Vang (see attached photo) was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail for felony driving under the influence.
Responding officers conducted an initial canvas of the area for witnesses and evidence. During the preliminary investigation, officers determined the Toyota FJ Cruiser was traveling southbound on Franklin Boulevard and the Cadillac CTS was traveling northbound on Franklin Boulevard when the collision occurred at Franklin Boulevard / Idaho Drive.
Due to the fatality, the Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to the scene to take over the traffic investigation. Detectives checked the area for additional evidence and witnesses. At this point, detectives do believe impaired driving was a factor and this investigation remains active.
The identity of the male adult driver who was pronounced deceased will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin has been notified.
