On Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at approximately 8:40 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the area of Elder Creek Road and 63rd Street regarding a major vehicle collision.
When officers arrived, they learned that a bicyclist and vehicle were involved in the collision. Officers made contact with the male adult bicyclist who had sustained major injuries. Fire personnel responded and transported the bicyclist to a local area hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the involved vehicle sustained a minor injury as a result of this vehicle collision.
Responding officers conducted an initial canvas of the area for witnesses and evidence. During the preliminary investigation, officers determined the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Elder Creek Road and the vehicle was traveling westbound on Elder Creek Road when the collision occurred, just west of 63rd Street.
Due to the fatality, the Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to the scene to take over the traffic investigation. Detectives checked the area for additional evidence and witnesses. At this point, detectives do not believe impaired driving was a factor.
The identity of the male adult bicyclist will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin has been notified.
