On Friday, June 7th, 2019, at 7:15 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department and the Arden Park Neighborhood Association will host a ceremony including a “check presentation” at Arden Park, located at 1000 La Sierra Drive, Sacramento, CA. The presentation will include a visit from the Sacramento Police K9 Team and will precede the Movies in the Park event where “A Dog’s Way Home” is scheduled to be viewed.
The Sacramento Police Canine Association will receive a donation of approximately $13,000 which was raised over the course of the year from the efforts and generosity of the members of the Arden Park Community and local Boy Scout Troops. The driving forces behind the organization and solicitation of these donations are Arden Park residents Evelyn Jensen and Theresa Lincoln.
The donation of these funds supports the mission of the Sacramento Police Canine Association:
"The specific purpose of the Sacramento Police Canine Association is to educate and promote the use of police service dogs in the community, perform canine demonstrations for schools and community groups, provide additional training and equipment for police service dogs and their handlers, assist in the care of retired police dogs, and furnish benefits to all police canines."
The relationship with the Arden Park neighborhood and the Sacramento Police Department developed late last year with the Police Department’s involvement in a search and apprehension resulting from a shooting and high-speed chase that originated in Natomas and ended in the Arden Park area. After the suspects fled the scene of the shooting, patrol officers formed a perimeter. Due to the suspects potentially still being armed, additional units responded, including the SWAT Team, Air Operations Unit, EOD robots and K9 units. After a lengthy and extensive search, all three suspects were safely taken into custody with the assistance of a K9 unit.
Following the above described incident, Arden Park residents wanted to thank the Police Department and give something back for all of their hard work and commitment to the safety of the community. Donating to the non-profit Sacramento Police K9 Association was the perfect answer. The donated funds will support the purchase of upgraded body armor for our SWAT-trained K9’s and assist in funding several medical procedures for our retired K9 teammates.
