Today, twenty motivated Sacramento City College Students completed an 8-week, non-paid internship program at the Sacramento Police Department. The students that participated are now eligible to receive one work experience credit with Sacramento City College. The program was designed to give students a better understanding of the Sacramento Police Department and to assist those who have a desire to join the department.
The interns received training in various assignments within the Sacramento Police Department to include but not limited to: Emergency Vehicle Operations Course, Tactical Village, Force Options Simulator, Communications Center, Crime Scene Investigations, and the Property and Evidence Division.
Students attended an extensive 1-day training class at the Sacramento Regional Driver Training Facility. While attending the class, students learned hands-on techniques to promote safe driving habits such as vehicle placement, collision avoidance, and skid pan.
Qualifications for the program: 18 years of age or older, pass a Live Scan, and maintain an overall 2.0 GPA.
Due to the complexity and inherent dangers within the Law Enforcement Field, typical internships that expose students to on-the-job-training have historically been challenging and impractical. The Sacramento Police Department took the initiative to design a program that puts students through various training scenarios in an effort to provide students with the best exposure to police work.
This program is one of many recruiting initiatives to encourage our Sacramento youth to consider a career with the Sacramento Police Department.
