The Sacramento Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying a suspect wanted for an attempted rape and sexual assault. At this time, the investigation remains active and detectives believe two crimes have been committed by this same suspect and the circumstances are as follows:
· On Sunday, August 18, 2019, at approximately 6:34 p.m., officers responded to a report of a sexual assault in the area of Sutter’s Landing Regional Park. Responding officers determined the suspect sexually assaulted a female adult victim just south of the American River. During the attack, the victim was able to flee from the suspect and she was not injured.
· At approximately 7:25 p.m., while investigating the sexual assault, the officers on scene were informed of a separate incident nearby. The officers learned that a subject attempted to rape a female adult victim nearby, on the bike trail, just under Business 80, south of the American River. During this attack, the victim was able to flee from the suspect. Officers conducted follow-up investigation and determined this was the same suspect as the first incident.
Responding officers, a police helicopter and additional officers initiated an extensive search in an attempt to locate the suspect. After a thorough search of the area, the suspect was not located. See the attached photo of the area where the crimes occurred. The suspect was last seen fleeing westbound from the scene.
Due to the severity of both incidents, detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were called to the scene to take over the investigation. This remains an active investigation and detectives are requesting assistance from the community to identify the suspect responsible for both crimes.
The suspect is described as a male adult, Hispanic, approximately 20-30 years-old, approximately 5’9”, heavy set, green eyes, dark hair. The suspect speaks English and Spanish, and detectives believe he speaks English with a Spanish accent. See attached photo of the suspect and visit our Twitter (@SacPolice) and/or Facebook (@SacramentoPoliceDepartment) for a video of the suspect.
