On Friday, September 20, 2019 at approximately 7:47 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the area of Roseville Road and Connie Drive regarding a major vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they learned that a pedestrian and a small pick-up truck were involved in the collision. Officers located the male adult pedestrian in the roadway who had sustained major injuries. Fire personnel responded and declared this person deceased. The driver of the pick-up truck remained on scene, was cooperative with the investigation, and did not have signs of impairment.
Responding officers conducted an initial canvass of the area for witnesses and evidence. During the preliminary investigation, another involved vehicle was located at the light rail station nearby. Based on statements, physical evidence, and damage to the vehicles, we believe the following occurred. The driver of the pick-up truck was traveling westbound on Roseville Road and struck the pedestrian who was in the roadway. The pedestrian was sent into the eastbound lane of Roseville Road where he was struck again by the second vehicle that was traveling eastbound. That vehicle continued to the light rail station nearby and the occupant(s) fled on foot.
Due to the fatality, the Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to the scene to take over the traffic investigation. Detectives checked the area for additional evidence and witnesses. The investigation remains active.
The identity of the male adult pedestrian will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin has been notified.
